Odd year Kimi... The lack of pace from the Iceman this year is not surprising at all. Why? Look at history. Kimi is an odd year driver. Let me explain... 2001 brought Kimi, one of the most inexperienced drivers to take to the grid, where he earned Sauber a fair amount of championship points. Overall a good rookie year. Although 2002 brought a move to a good team, the MP4-17 was very unreliable and well off the pace of other teams... not the greatest year. 2003 had Kimi fighting for a championship but still had a few reliability gremlins nipping away at him. Overall a good year with a good amount of points. 2004...What can you say about the MP4-19? It could barely get out of the paddock let alone get in a few laps....Not a good year at all. 2005...The MP4-20 was by far the fastest car on the grid and brought the Iceman numerous victories. However, speed is nothing without reliablity which is why Alonso triumphed. Overall a good year with Kimi fighting for the world championship. 2006...Lets just forget about the MP4-21 and move on. Truly a horrid year for the Woking based team. 2007...Obviously a team/driver championship is a good year. Job well done. This is why 2008 is not surprising at all. Why doesn't everyone stop focusing on Kimi's lacking season and focus on the championship battle between two new contenders? Don't worry about the Iceman. I have a feeling that good things will be making history in 2009.

I don't think he lost motivation. Just look what have happened over the races in the last half season. Magnacours his exhaust pipe broke and he had to drive on telemetry and taking it slower and lost out to Massa. Canada he got assulted by Lewis and had to retire. European his engine blow just like Massas in previous race in Hungary. Spa, Silverstone and Valencia he lost out big time because the car struggled big time in the wet. Singapore he got unlucky while pushing and hit the curb even Lewis had complained about and crashed out. Plus you have his pit stop blunder where he almost did what Massa did in Singapore and ripped the fulehose of the rig which cost him. If it wasn't for bad luck this season Kimi wouldn't have any luck. Out of all the screw ups he only been faulted with 2 due to driver error. Rest been team errors and a car that wasn't quick and stable in wet.

I think kimi is one of the fastest drivers in f1, if not the fastest. the reason he has been slow recently is because he has lost all motivation. he thinks he has nothing to prove because he has won a world championship. look at schumacher, he never lost motivation, hence 7 world titles.
