Martin Brundle believes that Lewis Hamilton has to have a change of mindset before the 2012 season if he is to challenge for the title.

Hamilton was involved in a number of high-profile on-track incidents during the past season and came in for a lot of criticism off the track.

The end result was a disappointing fifth in the Driver's standings for the Briton, coming in behind both Red Bulls, his McLaren team-mate, Jenson Button, and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso.

Brundle expects Hamilton to bounce back and top Button next year but to do so he needs to get into the right frame of mind.

"Jenson's on a roll," Brundle told the Guardian.

"I think its absolutely clear that Lewis's speed and determination and skill is totally undiminished. It is a question of whether he can put himself in a mind-set where he can deliver that, week in, week out.

"Almost any sport is 90% in the head and we all know, having observed him this year, that's what he needs to get right. He knows how to press the throttle and the brake that's for sure."

Brundle, who was announced as part of Sky Sports' new commentary team on Wednesday, is hopeful that chasing pack of teams will up their game next year and mount a real challenge to Red Bull's dominance.

"We're all desperate for Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes Benz, particularly the first two, to hit the ground running with a car that works out of the box and not something that they get up and running by July," he said.

"That's what we're waiting on, because you know [Red Bull designer] Adrian Newey won't be getting it too far wrong," he added.
