Hamilton: Best Friday in a long time

Lewis Hamilton says it felt as if his tyres were "almost melting" around the Interlagos circuit, such was the track temperature on Friday.

The McLaren driver proved to be the one to beat at the Brazilian track on Friday, setting the pace with a 1:14.026.

However, Hamilton's afternoon was not without problem as, lapping a track that reached temperatures as high as 51'C, he was heard telling his team over the radio that his rear tyres were overheating.

"It's so hot here and the track temperature I think ten degrees or something like that in the last session," the Brit told Sky Sports F1.

"You're just sliding around and it's like the tyres are almost melting as you're going around, just so hot.

"But our runs are still pretty good though. The laps are so fast, obviously with 1:14s, so with my long run I thought we'd only done ten 10 laps maybe but I actually done 15, 16 laps. So it's not too bad."

But while it wasn't too bad on a dry track, Hamilton has yet to experience a wet track this weekend. That, though, is expected to change come Saturday afternoon when heavy rain has been forecast.

"In the rain it [tyres] shouldn't be such a problem. It's going to be difficult for everyone as it's always tricky here particularly. But in these conditions I think we stand a good chance."

Meanwhile, Hamilton, who has the words "Thank You McLaren" on his helmet this weekend, reckons this Friday - his last Friday outing with McLaren - was one of his best in a long time.

"It's great to have such a positive final Friday with the team - it's been one of the best Fridays we've had for a long, long time, in fact.

"I'm savouring every moment of this weekend, and I'll be taking photographs of my engineers and mechanics through each day.

"The car feels really good - thanks, guys - and it would be the perfect Saturday if I could take pole tomorrow."
