Sutil appeals against assault verdict

Sutil appeals against assault verdict

Former Force India driver Adrian Sutil has appealed against his conviction for causing grievous bodily harm.

The German was found guilty of assaulting Lotus F1 team co-owner Eric Lux and was handed a suspended 18-month sentence and a fine €200,000 by Munich district court judge Christiane Thiemann.

Sutil's manager Manfred Zimmermann, though, has confirmed his client will appeal against the guilty verdict.

"We have decided on this step because we are convinced this judge must not oppose, especially the video tapes which from our point of view are quite obvious and have not been properly considered."

Speaking to German tabloid Bild, Zimmermann added: "Not asking one of the witnessess to court and other important circumstances have not been considered as well."

Should the case go to a re-trial, then Lewis Hamilton could be called to attend after he missed the initial hearing due to commitments with his team.

His decision not to testify angered Sutil with the German accusing him of being a "coward" and "not a man".

The district court has confirmed the prosecuting attorney Nicole Selzam will also appeal against the verdict.
