  • Before the F1 championship started in 1950, Fangio competed in various events. Here he drives for Maserati in the 1948 Rome Road Race.
  • He also got his first taste of driving a Ferrari in front of the Tifosi at Monza that year.
  • Fangio took part in the first ever F1 race, qualifying third at Silverstone. But he retired with an oil leak after 62 of 70 laps.
  • The Alfa driver would take the clean sweep next time out in Monaco however, with pole, fastest lap, the race win and lapping every other driver.
  • The Gran Premio Di Bari may have not counted towards the Championship but Alfa still sent their works team to the Italian event. Fangio finished second.
  • The Argentine won at Reims in 1951, after Alfa made their drivers swap cars mid-race, on his way to the Drivers title.
  • With the world championship using F2 rules, Alfa pulled out. Fangio competed in non-championship events for BRM, such as the Ulster Trophy race at Dundrod.
  • Fangio joined Maserati (Number 50) for 1953 and took the battle to the Ferraris.
  • After an epic battle in France, just a second sperated Ferrari driver Mike Hawthorn, and Fangio at the line.
  • He also contested the Mille Miglia race that year.
  • Fangio started 1954 with Maserati, winnng the two rounds he entered.
  • ... before making the switch to Mercedes at the French Grand Prix and going on to take the drivers' title.
  • At Silverstone he set a lap record of lap record average speed of 100.35mph.
  • For twistier tracks, Mercedes took off the streamline body and raced an open wheel version of the W196.
  • Fangio stuck with Mercedes in 1955.
  • As the Silver Arrows dominated winning all but one race entered.
  • Fangio took four wins
  • ... and another drivers' crown
  • He switched to Ferrari in 1956 after Mercedes withdrew from racing.
  • And won on his debut at his home Grand Prix in Argentina.
  • And at Silverstone.
  • Three times he had to take over his team-mates car that year.
  • Including at the season ending Grand Prix, which handed Fangio the title.
  • Fangio once again switched teams in 1957, re-joining Maserati.
  • He took four wins that year on his way to a fifth driver crown. Ferrari didn't win a race.
  • Fangio called time on his career after the 1958 French Grand Prix
