Piquet can't wait to be 'rubbing paint'

Piquet can't wait to be 'rubbing paint'

Nelson Piquet will make a competitive racing return in eight days' time in the United States.

Piquet confirmed earlier this month he would be taking his career to the US after failing to land a Formula One seat.

The 24-year-old, who was embroiled in the 'crashgate' scandal last season, has not raced since the Hungarian Grand Prix in July after which he was axed by Renault.

But Piquet will now compete in the ARCA Racing Series, which runs a style of stockcar, starting with the opening event in Daytona on February 6, the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200.

"I'm very excited," said Brazilian Piquet. "I can't wait to reach 200mph side-by-side and rubbing paint.

"The plans for the season are coming together really well and I am racing with a very strong team. I can't wait to get out on track."

Piquet will drive a Toyota for Eddie Sharp Racing, with the team boss stating: "We are excited to have Nelson driving for us in Daytona this year.

"He will represent ESR well, and we believe he will gain some good learning miles in a stockcar, especially racing at Daytona."
