Jose Maria Lopez's Formula One dream has come to a crashing halt with news that he has failed to land the test driver role at the new Hispania Racing Team.
Lopez has down to race this season with USF1, offering the team a substantial amount for his chance of competing in Formula One.
However, that officially came to an end on Wednesday with news that the team would not race in this year's Championship, having asked the FIA if they could defer their entry to 2011.
The Argentine immediately turned his focus to HRT, the former Campos Meta outfit, with a member of his management team revealing that there are "a lot of chances that he will be a reserve at Campos."
But that deal failed to materialise with Argentina's semi-official news agency Telam reporting that talks with HRT have broken down.
"All the possibilities for Pechito to be in Formula One have been frustrated," Lopez's agent Felipe McGough told the news agency.
