Petrov: Alonso is also a paying driver

Petrov: Alonso is also a paying driver

Vitaly Petrov says if he is to be considered a paying driver than so too is double World Champion Fernando Alonso.

It is a known fact that Petrov secured his debut with Renault thanks to an estimated 15 million Euros that came courtesy of Russian state companies.

The Russian has brought sponsorship with him ever since, including to his new team Caterham, who opted last month to drop Jarno Trulli in favour of Petrov.

However, it seems Petrov is finally tired of being called a paying driver, saying if he is than so too is Ferrari's Alonso.

He told Italian daily La Stampa: "I do not think there is a difference between me and Alonso.

"Everyone knows that he is funded by money from the Banco di Santander

"Anyway, you get into Formula 1 with the talent."
