Alonso happy to beat Webber

Fernando Alonso was content with Ferrari's display in Hungary this weekend as he believes he kept his main title rivals in check.

The Spaniard clearly sees Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel as his main challengers for the 2012 Championship honours and he was happy that he didn't lose out too much to the Red Bull duo at Budapest.

Despite not having the best car all weekend, Alonso finished P5 - three places ahead of Webber and one place behind Vettel.

Naturally the double World Champion was relieved to come away with another good haul of points.

"It was, again, a good Sunday for us in terms of points," Alonso said.

"We finished in front of Webber and just one position behind Vettel. 23 times consecutively in the points is something quite impressive and the team is doing a great job giving me a strong car in my hands and finishing in all the races so this is good."

Alonso now enjoys a 40-point lead over Webber in the Drivers' Championship, but he feels Ferrari are still behind the top three teams.

"I think we are as we were yesterday and as we were in Germany," he said.

"I think Red Bull, McLaren and Lotus are in front of us and we need to catch up. We need to close this gap, hopefully after the summer break when we come back to Spa we need to be more competitive and we need to be quicker."
