Chilton: Good to beat Caterham

Max Chilton was relishing a mini triumph over Caterham after edging Giedo van der Garde in Thursday's outing at Barcelona.

Spending a third successive day in the car, the British rookie covered 57 laps with a best time of 1:25.690.

But while his time put him 3.8s behind pace-setter Fernando Alonso, it did see him finish ahead of Caterham's van der Garde, who he beat by almost half a second.

"It's been good to be able to pick up from where I left off," said Chilton, who lost track-time in the afternoon due to a planned suspension change.

"As we've had such a stop-start programme it's important to try to find a rhythm when we can, to ensure the engineers are getting some consistent feedback on this aero before we move to the new configuration next week.

"Once again, it's been the case that much of the benefit will have been felt behind the scenes rather than on the timesheets, especially as we had a red flag at the end of the session when we were hoping to explore more of the outright performance.

"Having said that, it's good that we still find ourselves ahead of the Caterham again."
