Jean-Eric Vergne is refusing to let talk of him replacing Mark Webber at Red Bull Racing distract him from the job at hand.

With Webber announcing on Thursday that he would be leaving F1 at the end of this season, the race is on to replace the Australian driver.

Red Bull have already narrowed the field down to three drivers with Vergne joining team-mate Daniel Ricciardo and Lotus' Kimi Raikkonen on the short list.

And having been asked repeatedly how he feels about the prospect of racing for reigning Champs Red Bull, Vergne maintains he's not dwelling on it.

"I can't think about it," he said. "That might sound bland but it's absolutely true.

"Red Bull Racing is a team I would love to race for. Red Bull gave me the chance to be in F1 and the opportunity to make what I love doing my career, which is fantastic.

"To race for the people that gave me that opportunity would be amazing but as well as that, to race against a World Champion who has the best car would be even more amazing.

"It would be a dream to race for them but it genuinely is something I cannot give any thought to at the moment.

"If I start to think about whether I'll race for them or stay at Toro Rosso or maybe even be out of F1 altogether then I'll lose focus and that will the end of my season."

As for his relationship with his potential 2014 team-mate, the Toro Rosso driver says he gets on well with Sebastian Vettel.

"It's pretty good, we talk quite a bit and we have some fun in the paddock. What a lot of people don't know if that I used to do a lot of work for Seb when I was younger in the simulator etc. In fact I actually know quite a lot about him, which I don't think he knows!

"Anyway, as I said, I don't have time to dwell on what might happen next year as I've got plenty to do at the moment in helping to develop a car that is getting better all the time and a lot to do in competing against a very quick team-mate who will certainly be eager to post a good result having had a couple of difficult races.

"I've had a good car in the past two races, I've had clean races and I've been able to score good results. I think we can do the same here again, but that's sort of tempting fate, so I'm just going to take it session by session and try to dial in the perfect car for whatever Sunday throws at us."
