Alonso needs luck to overhaul deficit

Fernando Alonso admits he needs "luck" to win the title with his "60-point deficit" in the standings and "one-second deficit in the car."

For the third successive grand prix, the Ferrari driver finished second to Sebastian Vettel in Sunday's Singapore Grand Prix.

The German's extra eight points saw him extend his lead in the Championship to 60 points over the Spaniard with 150 still to play for.

However, more worryingly then his advantage in the standings, was Vettel's out on track as the Red Bull racer beat Alonso by over 30 seconds at the Marina Bay circuit.

"Sebastian keeps increasing the gap - we need to be realistic with that and know we need to be lucky to fight for the Championship," the Spaniard told Sky Sports F1.

"We have a 60-point deficit in the Championship and we have a one-second deficit in the car. So if you put the two things together we need to be very, very lucky."

And should luck turn their way, Alonso is confident Ferrari will pounce.

"If this luck comes," he said, "they need to know that we will be there because we will be second ready to take the opportunities."
