Perez unfazed by rumours

Sergio Perez won't let rumours about his future at McLaren get to him, insisting they are "completely different" to reality.

McLaren have yet to confirm the Mexican driver for next season and have in fact stated that they are in no rush to do so and will wait a few races.

This prompted speculation that McLaren are undecided on whether or not to retain Perez.

The 23-year-old, though, says he's not fazed by the rumours.

"Well, what you see in the media and what is reality in the team are two completely different stories," he told the official F1 website.

"I am happy with the situation I have - and rumours don't change anything. I am determined to succeed and to do my best for my team - that hasn't changed.

"We still have four races to go to try to show our true colours; to score as many points as the car allows us to do, to put on a good show - and to look forward. I think we still can walk away from the season with our heads up."

Perez joined McLaren at the start of this season on the back of a brilliant year with Sauber in which he secured three podium finishes.

Believing he was moving onto a team capable of taking it that step further and winning races, Perez has instead found himself battling just to score points.

Asked whether he was 'feeling cheated', he said: "No, no. We are in a difficult situation, yes. And looking back I had the option to join other top teams for 2013, but when McLaren knocked at my door it was very clear that I would join them - that it is the right place for me.

"Yes, the season has been disappointing - not only for me, but for the whole team. But McLaren has such big potential and is so determined to succeed that what we see is not more than an unfortunate blip in the history of McLaren."
