Kimi: Lack of running pretty normal

Kimi Raikkonen has downplayed the lack of running at Jerez on Tuesday, saying it will take time for the teams to get up to speed.

Raikkonen's first day back on track with Ferrari was not without problems as he brought out the first red flag of the day.

The Finn broke down on his opening lap with Ferrari billing it as a "precautionary stop by engineers."

He went onto cover 31 laps while the second most productive driver was Lewis Hamilton with just 18 laps.

"For sure everybody wants to see more laps and we want to do more laps, but it is pretty normal with such a big change," Raikkonen told Autosport.

"It will take a little bit of time before we can run 100 per cent all the time and not have issues.

"I think we have started pretty okay."

Raikkonen was also the quickest on the day with his 1:27.104 putting him 0.716s up on Mercedes' Hamilton.

Sharing his thoughts on his first day dealing with the new regulations, Raikkonen added: "I think the biggest challenge is getting all the new stuff working as we want, and working together.

"It is much trickier than what we are used to, but from the driving side I don't think it is an awful lot different.

"It is just the first day with all new stuff so it takes time to get things up to speed. One day to go, a lot of work to do, we know that.

"But we expected these first test days to learn things, so I really don't feel like it is such a big difference to this year or any previous one."
