Hamilton slapped with grid-slot penalty

Lewis Hamilton has been hit with a three grid-slot penalty for the Indian GP after speeding under yellows in Practice One.

The McLaren driver topped the timesheets at the end of Friday's first session, however, almost immediately there questions about whether he had broken the rules.

With the yellow flags being waved as marshals cleared away Jaime Alguersuari and Pastor Maldonado's cars, the chequered flag fell, signaling the end of practice.

Hamilton, though, had just crossed the line and therefore was permitted to do one more lap.

And with the flags being lifted during the lap, the Brit put his foot down and stormed to the top of the timesheets. However, the stewards have ruled that Hamilton put his foot down too soon and have slapped the McLaren driver with a three place grid penalty for Sunday's Indian GP.

Sauber's Sergio Perez was handed the same punishment, also for ignoring yellow flags.
