McLaren 'not afraid to make changes'

McLaren 'not afraid to make changes'

McLaren managing director Jonathan Neale insists his squad won't hesitate to make changes to their 2014 driver line-up "in order to get the job done".

Although Jenson Button and Sergio Perez are confident of staying at McLaren, the Woking squad are yet to confirm the duo for next season. McLaren have made it clear in the past that Perez is one of for the future while Button claims it's "only a matter of time" before he signs his new deal.

McLaren, though, are yet to show their hand and it remains to be seen if they will keep the status quo and keep both drivers until the 2015 season when Honda becomes their new engine supplier or if they decide to change things.

"What you really want is talent and high performance," Neale is quoted as saying by Autosport during the latest McLaren-Mercedes Vodafone teleconference.

"We've shown in the past that we weren't afraid to make the changes that we felt that we needed to in the team, whether it was inside the organisation or in the driver line-up, in order to get the job done.

"We're really excited about the return of Honda and are working really hard behind the scenes to make that successful. But we're also looking forward to what we hope will be a very competitive powertrain from Mercedes in 2014."

Felipe Massa has in recent days admitted that he has held talks with McLaren following Ferrari's decision to let him go at the end of this season, but Button and Perez remain favourites to stay.

However, Neale refused to give anything away about their plans away.

"We don't comment on rumour mill or drivers until such time as we're ready to make an announcement," he added.

"I hope that it won't be too much further now before we're able to clarify what's going on.

"This is that time of year when everybody is talking to everybody, whether it's technical staff moving around or drivers.
