McLaren announcement due 'shortly'

McLaren announcement due 'shortly'

Martin Whitmarsh won't take too much longer to announce his driver line-up with Sergio Perez expected to remain at McLaren.

Although it has long been believed that Perez would partner Jenson Button next season, McLaren have held off confirming their line-up as they wanted to see how the Mexican racer progressed.

And with season-best fifth place at the last race in India, Perez's future will be resolved in the near future.

"When will we make our driver announcement? I expect we will be making it quite shortly," Whitmarsh said.

The McLaren driver boss was also full of praise for Perez's drive at the Buddh International Circuit.

"I think Sergio did a great race last week and that's the sort of thing that we love to see," he added.

"Both our guys are race drivers and they want to beat each other.

"We want that level of competition, that's how we run our team... the nice thing is we've got two really honest guys who like competing with one another.

"I think they can do it cleanly and well and it stimulates all of us."
