Daniel Ricciardo believes Red Bull can establish themselves as the leaders of the pack this season behind the dominant Mercedes pair.
The Milton Keynes outfit has arguably performed better than expected so far this year such were their problems during pre-season, even though Ricciardo was disqualified from second place at the Australian GP.
Team-mate Sebastian Vettel finished on the podium in Malaysia behind Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, while Ricciardo was fourth in Bahrain after starting race outside the top 10.
Although Red Bull continued to have problems during last week's two-day test in Bahrain, Ricciardo believes they are getting quicker and are capable of moving to the front of the chasing pack.
"I think it is [improving], also we have to look at the performance at the weekend [in Bahrain] and it was good," Ricciardo told crash.net.
"Obviously we don't go back this year, but I think we understood some things over the weekend and in the couple of days [testing], so I hope in China we can be... probably not the first best team but hopefully we can be the second best.
"I think the track rewards fairly good aerodynamics - besides obviously the long straight - but hopefully we make up enough time in the first few sectors and the compromise we lose on the straight will not outshine it."
