Webber in contention for 2014 Red Bull seat

Mark Webber will be in the running for a 2014 race seat at Red Bull, according to team owner Dietrich Mateschitz.

The Australian's future at Red Bull was thrown into doubt at the Malaysian Grand Prix after team-mate Sebastian Vettel "stole" victory from him by ignoring team orders.

Although there were initial fears that he could quit the team, Webber's father, Alan, as well as team principal Christian Horner have assured fans that he will see out his contract.

The veteran has been on a rolling contract with the Milton Keynes squad the past few years and there are doubts over whether he would want to continue for an eighth season with the team following the latest fall-out.

However Mateschitz says from Red Bull's side, Webber will be in contention for a race seat along with Toro Rosso duo Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo.

"Whether he retires, only he will choose, but Mark is definitely a candidate for 2014," Mateschitz told German publication Speedweek.

"He is always welcome with us, so too would be a quick junior like Vergne or Ricciardo from the Toro Rosso team.

"Sorry, I know it's a diplomatic answer which leaves everything open, but that's how it is. Everything else is pure speculation."

One person whose name has also been thrown into the hat in recent months is that of Kimi Raikkonen. The Finn has been outstanding since his return to Formula One with Lotus at the start of this season.

Mateschitz added: "Kimi is cool and fast and always a candidate."
