Bottas: Nice boost for the team

Valtteri Bottas not only made his first appearance in Q3 in Montreal but he also put his Williams up onto third place on the grid.

Arriving in Canada, Bottas' best qualifying position in his fledgeling F1 career was the P14 he achieved last time out in Monaco.

This time round, though, he not only bettered that, he blitzed it.

Having to contend with a wet Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and intermediate tyres, Bottas posted a 1:25.897 to take third place on the grid.

The Williams rookie, who is still chasing his first World Championship point, was just 0.472s slower than pole-sitter Sebastian Vettel.

"It means a lot," he said.

"It is way more up the grid than what we could have imagined.

"It has been so difficult the first six races for us so this will be a nice boost for the team."

He added: "We really got everything right today."
