Esteban Gutierrez says his goal for his debut season is to be "consistent at a good competitive level".

The Mexican driver, who is contesting his first season in Formula One with Sauber, was present at the team's unveiling of their C32 in Hinwil on Saturday.

The event took place three days before pre-season testing kicks off at the Jerez circuit where Gutierrez will be action alongside team-mate Nico Hulkenberg.

Asked about his goals for his debut season, he said: "To be consistent at a good competitive level."

He will start working towards that goal at Jerez where he intends "keeping my mind clear for the tests so I can give my best feedback to the team, as it is a very important development stage in preparation for the races.

"In the beginning the most important task is to solve all the car's reliability issues so we can put in a lot of laps in the tests. Then, of course, another important factor is to get to know the car in race and qualifying conditions, which mainly comes with experience during the first races."

The 21-year-old, though, is not letting this moment get to him, saying he is "very calm".

"My goal is to focus on the most important things in my preparation, and then before Melbourne I'm quite sure we will all have the adrenaline pumping to the maximum."
