Russia's new F1 race track in Sochi is almost complete although there is still work to be done on the surrounding buildings and stands.

In the wake of the Olympic Games, work on the Sochi F1 venue will hit high gear as the country prepares for its inaugural grand prix.

"Construction of the autodrome in Sochi keeps moving forward," race promoter Oleg Zabara told Reuters.

"All works are being carried out according to the schedule. The racing track is 91 per cent complete.

"Everything is according to plan, and there aren't any problems during Olympic period."

He revealed that already the race is attracting attention with pre-orders for tickets coming through.

"We expect to sell 55,000 tickets," Zabara added. "We are already collecting pre-orders.

"The Russian Grand Prix is a mega event and a catalyst for the development of a motorsport community in Russia and Sochi."

Explaining what was going on, Zabara told Reuters that the pit-lane complex and medical centre were complete while "work on the interiors and facade of the pit building and race control was moving forward."

Added to that, "fitting out the interior of the main grandstand and the laying of the third and final layer of asphalt on the track would be carried out once the Olympics and Paralympics were out of the way."

The inaugural Russian GP will take place on 12 October 2014.
