Senna gloves fetch £22 000

Lotus owner Gerard Lopez forked out £22 000 for a pair of racing gloves worn by Ayrton Senna at a charity auction.

The framed gloves, which Senna used during the 1991 Championship when he won his third and final title, were donated by former McLaren co-ordinator and friend Jo Ramirez.

The auction was staged at the Motor Sport Hall of Fame event at the Royal Opera House in London and raised £92,000 for the Grand Prix Mechanics Charitable Trust.

Former World Champions Niki Lauda, Damon Hill and his late father Graham, represented by his grandson Josh, were inducted into the Motor Sport magazine Hall of Fame. The late Colin Chapman, founder of Team Lotus, was also inducted.
