Jones: Vettel is now Webber's enemy

Former World Champion Alan Jones has told his compatriot Mark Webber to treat team-mate Sebastian Vettel as the "enemy".

The duo's already tentative relationship took a blow earlier this season when Vettel deliberately ignored team orders to steal the Malaysian GP victory from Webber.

Jones knows what it is like to have issues within the team after his relationship with Williams team-mate Carlos Reutemann broke down early in 1981.

Despite being signalled by Williams to let Jones take the victory at the Brazilian GP, the Argentine ignored the orders and claimed the win.

"Seb has proved he can't be trusted, so from now on Mark must view him as just another enemy," Jones told The Guardian.

"If Seb didn't like what was going on he shouldn't have signed his agreement with Red Bull in the first place.

"I had a similar experience with Carlos Reutemann in 1981."

Jones, though, has backed Webber to bounce back, confident that his compatriot has the consistency needed to fight for this year's World title.

"While I don't think we are going to have as many different winners this year as we had in 2012, there are clearly a number of drivers capable of winning a race.

"In that situation, the title will be won by the most consistent performer.

"We know that Mark is good enough, and has a good enough car, to perform consistently."
