Merc drivers can 'shine' in Monaco

Ross Brawn reckons Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg can "allow their talent to shine" in Monaco as F1 visits a slow, bumpy circuit.

Despite starting from pole position in the last three grands prix, Mercedes have failed to claim a single victory and have in fact managed just one top-three result during that time.

Struggling to get the most out of their W04 and its Pirelli tyres over a long distance, the team has instead plummeted down the order.

However, that could all change next weekend in Monaco where Mercedes, and those who bet on F1, are hoping for better.

The tight, twisty circuit is expected to suit the car while both Hamilton and Rosberg have previously recorded strong results in the Principality.

"Monaco is a not usually a race to which teams bring many updates because the track conditions change so much across the weekend," said the team boss.

"The priority is always to get the drivers comfortable with the unique challenge the circuit presents and to give them a set-up they feel confident pushing to the limit.

"Both Nico and Lewis have historically been incredibly competitive in Monaco and this weekend will certainly allow their talent to shine.

"The engineering team will be focused on getting the most from our car on the slow, bumpy layout and there will of course be particular emphasis on achieving tyre consistency and durability."

But while Mercedes are focused on Monaco, Brawn says they will continue to work hard at their Brackley base to "fully understand the reasons for our below-par race performance in Barcelona."

The Englishman is hoping that Mercedes can "develop the right solutions for the upcoming circuits where high tyre usage could once again be a limitation for us."

Paddy Power is offering odds of 25/1 on Lewis Hamilton to win the World Championship. Rosberg is at 66/1.
