Bottas wants extended Williams stay

Valtteri Bottas is keen to remain at Williams next season, hoping his Canadian qualifying will go some way towards ensuring that.

2008 and 2009 were the last seasons that Williams retained the same line-up for more than a year.

Since then the Grove team has changed at least one driver, a move that put Bottas in the car in place of Bruno Senna for 2013.

The Finn, though, could hold onto his seat next season after deputy team principal Claire Williams recently stated that she'd be happy to continue the partnership.

"Sure, that sounds good!" Bottas told Finnish broadcaster MTV3. "Let's hope this continues."

The 23-year-old, though, is not bothering himself with contract talks at present, confident his driving will do the talking.

"There's no point thinking about it too much.

"The best thing I can do is focus on the race and do my best. Things then go in the direction you want them to go."

And Bottas' chances of remaining at Williams weren't hurt by his performance in Canada.

In the wet conditions on Saturday, he put his FW35 up into third place on the grid, ten positions higher than his team-mate Pastor Maldonado.

Unfortunately for Williams, in the dry on Sunday both drivers faltered although through no fault of their own.

"I think Canada was good for me in that I was able to show my skills," he added. "Hopefully it proved that I deserve a place."
