Button 'not surprised' by Webber exit

Jenson Button was "not surprised" to learn that Mark Webber will be walking away from F1 at the end of this season.

After months of speculation it was confirmed on Thursday that the Red Bull racer would be heading to Le Mans with Porsche in 2014.

The announcement brings to an end Webber's 12-year career in Formula One, much of which he has spent competing against Button for points, podiums and even world titles.

Asked for his thoughts on Webber's departure, Button said he was "not really surprised.

"Mark's career has been similar to mine. It's obviously the right time."

The McLaren driver was adamant, though, that it was not yet the right time for him, nor has he even thought about what other series he would join when he leaves F1.

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso also gave his thoughts, saying it was a "good time" for Webber and that the Porsche drive was a "good opportunity.

"Wish him the best of luck for the rest of the Championship and the future."
