Alonso: New parts not delivering

Alonso: New parts not delivering

Fernando Alonso has urged Ferrari "to keep on working" after a disappointing qualifying session at Silverstone.

With Sebastian Vettel widening the gap at the top of the standings with his win in Canada, Alonso knows he has to respond at the British Grand Prix to keep pace with the Red Bull driver.

However, the Italian squad have struggled so far this weekend and Alonso could only manage a P10 in qualifying while his team-mate Felipe Massa failed to make it into Q3.

The Spaniard admits their performance has not been up to scratch, but called on the team to correct things for race day.

"We were not competitive all weekend and it's not normal to see Ferrari out of Q3," he is quoted as saying on BBC Sport.

"We need to recover now and it was a bad Saturday. We didn't improve the car enough in the last four to five races and we ordered some new parts but they didn't do what we expected. We need to keep on working."
