Vergne, Ricciardo set for Silverstone

Toro Rosso are set to use both their current F1 drivers at next week's Young Driver Test at Silverstone.

The FIA has revised the regulations in order to open the test to race drivers to allow them to sample the new Pirelli tyres that are set to be introduced at the Hungary GP. Race drivers, though, must focus solely on tyres while inexperienced drivers will be allowed to other testing.

However, while some teams have opted to stick with youngsters, Toro Rosso's regular drivers Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo will both be in action at Silverstone.

Vergne confirmed he will drive at the three-day test on his official blog on the STR website.

"Obviously Daniel and I will do some of the running there - though as yet the team hasn't worked out the exact schedule - and I hope that we will get some answers then, particularly in regard to what to expect from the revised Pirelli tyres, which is what us race drivers will work on," he wrote.

"We're getting 2013 compounds built on 2012 constructions, so it will be interesting to see how we handle those."

Vergne has struggled in recent races, retiring in the past two grands prix with a hydraulic issue bringing a premature end to his German GP last weekend.

"It was not a good weekend for me, or for the whole team. Nothing went right for me from the first moment we put the car on track to the moment the team told me to retire from the race on lap 23," the Frenchman wrote.

"The car was very difficult to handle. I had no grip, I wasn't happy with the balance, and the performance just wasn't there. It's very hard to understand after the good weekends we had in Monaco and Canada.

"In the race I had massive understeer at some points during the race, huge oversteer at other times. The balance changed from lap to lap. It was just really, really inconsistent. We need to understand why it was like that and if we made mistakes we need to identify them, admit we made them and make sure we don't repeat them."
