Prac Three: Grosjean quickest of all

Prac Three: Grosjean quickest of all

Romain Grosjean will head into qualifying in a buoyant mood after edging his rivals in final practice at the Hungaroring.

The Frenchman posted a 1:20.730 on Pirelli's soft tyres to beat Fernando Alonso by 0.168. Grosjean is still chasing his first Formula One grand prix victory and could do with a boost as contract talks in the paddock heat up.

Sergio Perez was third quickest for McLaren, 0.322s off the pace. However, his session ended in the barrier.

With two minutes left in the session, the Mexican driver lost the rear end of McLaren out of Turn 10 and hit the tyre wall at Turn 11 with the left side of the car.

Sebastian Vettel was fourth for Red Bull Racing with the German spending the bulk of his session lapping the Hungaroring on the medium tyres and with a heavy fuel load. He was down in 19th place before a soft tyre run elevated him up the order.

Felipe Massa was fifth quickest ahead of Lewis Hamilton, who was the last driver to get within half a second of Grosjean's best.

Mark Webber and Nico Rosberg completed the top eight on another hot morning at the Budapest track while the top 12 drivers up to Pastor Maldonado were separated by less than a second.

Meanwhile, Sauber driver Esteban Gutierrez failed to complete a timed lap as he pitted after just two installation laps with a reported engine problem.
