Domenicali wants to retain Massa

Stefano Domenicali would like Ferrari to retain Felipe Massa for next season but admits the Brazilian needs to deliver better results.

Although Massa's Ferrari seat was on the line last season, the Scuderia opted to re-sign the 32-year-old on the back of a stronger second half of the campaign.

However, the Brazilian has once again struggled to deliver the results Ferrari need of him.

Falling well behind his team-mate Fernando Alonso, Massa has netted just one podium finish this season compared to Alonso's six.

And while the Spaniard is firmly in the race for this year's Drivers' Championship, Massa is out of it having scored less than half his team-mate's points.

In recent weeks Kimi Raikkonen has been linked to Massa's seat as too has Nico Hulkenberg while Jules Bianchi is believed to be a prospect for the future.

Domenicali, though, admits he'd like to give Massa a ninth season with Ferrari.

"Don't forget, everybody wants to drive for Ferrari. We have to wait and see," the team boss told the official F1 website.

"My favourite choice would be, of course, to keep Felipe because Felipe is a very good guy - very dedicated to the team - and when you look around there are not so many drivers out there that you swap and they immediately deliver.

"But, of course, we need good results from Felipe, so that's why we will not rush as we have to make the right decision for the team.

"As soon as we have made up our minds we will announce it officially to silence the rumours once and for all. When we are ready..."

As for reports that Raikkonen, who won the World title with Ferrari in 2007, is leading the running to replace Massa, Domenicali refused to comment.

"Kimi is a very fast driver and everybody knows how I rate him," he said. "But if I make a comment now it will be taken as a direct answer.

"As I said, there is no rush and we will make the right decision in the right moment."
