Domenicali denies power struggle

Domenicali denies power struggle

Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali insists there is no power struggle going on between himself and Fernando Alonso.

For the fourth year running, Alonso faces the prospect of losing out to Sebastian Vettel in the Drivers' Championship as the Red Bull racer has a healthy points lead in the standings.

Failing to challenge the German has taken its toll on Alonso and Ferrari in recent weeks with a bit of tension seeping through.

This has led to some speculation that all is not well between the double World Champion and his team boss. Domenicali, though, has denied this.

Asked about the alleged power struggle, the team boss told the official F1 website: "No, no, this is something that I totally reject. We want to win together..."

Suggested that perhaps the problem is that they 'cannot lose together', he added: "This is a team sport. If you are alone in the business you can win or lose alone. But that's not the concept of Formula One.

"It is a super-competitive environment where you are a hero when you win and a zero when you lose - there is not really something in between for us.

"Be sure that we are united to win - because that's what we are here for."

As for the recent rebuke that Alonso faced from president Luca di Montezemolo, Domenicali says it is "normal" for the Italian to want to push Ferrari forward in any way possible.

"He is our Chairman and he is very passionate about this part of his job, this side of the business.

"It is normal that he is very pushy with us because we had a really difficult July. It was a sign of attention from him - I read it this way, that's it.

"We know we need to be focused - and he reminded us of that - and that we have to be united to pass this difficult moment."
