Kimi not expecting massive difference

Kimi Raikkonen has downplayed concerns that the F1 drivers will have to deal with a completely new beast this season, saying the cars won't be much different.

With the arrival of the 1.6-litre turbocharged engine heralding a new era for Formula One, there are some concerns that the racing could change.

Throw in the new regulation limiting drivers to 100kgs of fuel per race - roughly 60kgs less than what they used in 2013 - and those concerns become worries.

One person, though, who is not at all fazed is the unflappable Raikkonen.

"My feeling is that it's not going to be as different as people think," he said in a video interview for Ferrari, "but I might be wrong.

"Hopefully we'll find out that it's pretty simple.

"For sure it is already difficult for all the technical people to make a new engine, new gearbox, all this stuff, but as a driver it's not really affecting the driving so much.

"Obviously we'll have new buttons and new things to follow, but let's wait and see how easy it is."

The 2007 World Champion, who is back at Ferrari this season partnering Fernando Alonso, also weighed in on the new double points rule.

"This is the same for everybody," he said.

"For sure it might help somebody and might be against somebody else and the people who it helps will like it.

"For me it doesn't matter. It is what it is. It's the rule and like it or not, it isn't going to change."

As for his return to Ferrari, Raikkonen says he has one goal in mind and that is to help the Scuderia secure the Championships.

"It is always very nice to have fans who are very interested and happy that I came back.

"It is nice to come back and hopefully we can achieve a good result and try to bring back the Championship.

"It is the only thing that we will try to do, to try to win the Championship and hopefully as a team we can do that.

"It will be long and difficult especially with the new rules it is hard to say who is where and how it is going to be.

"But I think there are a lot of good people in the team, a lot of knowledge and we have to do the best and see where we end up.

"There is all the chances we can do very well."
