Perez: Flying start is vital

Sergio Perez concedes it will be "very important" for Force India to get a handle on the new regulations as quickly as possible.

Ahead of this season Formula One has undergo a major overhaul in the engine regulations with the 2.4-litre V8s replaced by 1.6-litre turbocharged V6s.

Teams will also be limited to just 100kgs of fuel per race compared to last year's 160kgs while each driver has just five engines before they incur penalties.

Many expect the new regulations will spice up the Championship at the start of the season with Perez admitting it is important for his new Force India team to make a good start.

"I am confident we will be ready and I am really looking forward to the big challenge that lies ahead of us," he told Force India's official website.

"It's going to be a very busy time, some weeks in which we will need to get everything in place.

"It will be very important for us as a team to get on top of the new regulations as quickly as possible. It's a crucial opportunity to steal a march on our rivals, especially at the beginning of the season."

The Mexican racer, who is a long-shot with Paddy Power to win the title, will have his first taste of the VJM07 next week when pre-season testing gets underway at Jerez.

"I genuinely can't wait to drive the car. The expectations are high and everyone is working really hard for it.

"It's nice to work with my new team and now it is the moment to speed it up and do more together: this way, by the time we get to Australia everything will be second-nature."
