Red Bull's troubles continue

Day two at Jerez was a case of more of the same for Red Bull, as their running was cut short for the second successive day.

A suspected battery problem was the culprit on day two, as Sebastian Vettel managed to complete only eight laps, setting the slowest time of the riders who took to the track.

The German managed only three laps the day before due to delays caused by a part being fitted incorrectly, and his test is now over, with new team-mate Daniel Ricciardo set to take over for day three as previously scheduled.

Vettel would have been hopeful of getting more laps under his belt on Wednesday, but instead found himself confined to the pits early in the afternoon as a result of what is understood to be a Renault energy store issue.

The team decided to give up on the day's running with a hope towards sorting the problem out for Thursday.

"Obviously we've not had a lot of running and a few problems to sort out," Vettel told the BBC. "With such big rule changes it is usual to have teething problems, but that's what the tests are for, to sort them out.

"The next two days will be important to get some track time to prepare for the tests in Bahrain."

Red Bull race engineering co-ordinator Andy Damerum added: "It's obviously not ideal, but it's better to take the time to get to the root of the issue, so the decision to stop early today is probably a good one. We did get some track time this morning, however.

"As I said yesterday, even though it looks brief, the amount of useful data we're getting back is impressive. We cured the issue we had yesterday and ran that reliably this morning and it will be the same process this evening. It's a massive learning curve for everyone and it's simply a case of working through it step by step."

Vettel has now cancelled his media commitments for Wednesday evening and is on his way home.
