Alonso gets first crack at Sakhir

Ferrari confirmed on Tuesday that Fernando Alonso will be behind the wheel during the first two days of this week's pre-season test in Bahrain.

The desert track is expected to provide good conditions for winter testing and Scuderia and its rivals will be eager to make the most of this, the second last opportunity to test ahead of the opening race of the season in Melbourne next month.

Ferrari have warned against expecting particularly fast times on Wednesday, as a strong desert wind is expected to cover the track and surrounding areas with sand.

After Alonso has had the opportunity to test the new F14-T, his team-mate Kimi Raikkonen will take over on Friday and Saturday.

Ferrari are expected to pay particular attention to how its 059/3 power unit behaves over the week, since it has to be presented to the FIA to be signed off as homologated before the end of the month.

Additionally, the emphasis for the Maranello team over the course of the week will involve checking systems and control parameters, as well as comparing the data obtained in the simulator recently to a circuit that generally produces similar results as in private testing.
