Grosjean: No time for set-up work

Grosjean: No time for set-up work

Romain Grosjean says he is not even considering attempting set-up work with the Lotus E22 before the Australian Grand Prix, due to the need for focus on reliability issues.

Having missed the first test at Jerez last month, Lotus finally made its public debut at Sakhir on Wednesday, but Grosjean could only manage eight laps due to a number of issues affecting the car.

Grosjean admitted to not having a clear idea of the various problems the team are currently facing, though he claimed none of them were too serious.

"To be honest, there are so many things going on at the rear of the car that I can't understand everything, but it was related to the engine or batteries or things like that. Nothing too crazy," Grosjean told Autosport.

"Hopefully we can understand it and get better solutions for tomorrow and the day after.

"I don't really care about set-up work, that's going to be when we are in free practice. It's just about fixing all the issues and making sure the car is in one piece when we do long runs.

"It is what it is. We have a car, and we know that with all these changes it could have some issues.

"On the other hand, if the car is born well then we will have three sessions in practice in Melbourne to put it on the right foot and then start from there."

Like all teams working alongside engine supplier Renault, Lotus have struggled at the start of the season, and things did not change in Bahrain on Wednesday.

Caterham fared the best, managing 68 laps, but Red Bull, Toro Rosso and Lotus combined completed only 27.

Grosjean did get to spend some time in the E22, however, and says there weren't too many nasty surprises.

"On the few laps I did, although it was miles from the pace, the car felt alright," he said.

"There are still things I want to tune but nothing unexpected or very strange."
