Vettel: Q3 was not perfect

Vettel: Q3 was not perfect

Sebastian Vettel admits there were a few worrying moments at the start of qualifying when his RB10 was hit with yet another problem.

Last time out in Australia, an engine issue meant Vettel was down on power in qualifying and was unable to progress to Q3.

However, this time in Malaysia, it looked as if it could all be over in Q1.

Heading out for his first laps in the delayed session, Vettel was told to "box, we have a problem with the car."

That problem, though, proved to be minor as after a reset he was back out on the track.

"At the beginning of Q1, the heartbeat was rising very quickly when we realised there was an issue," he revealed.

"I came in, we restarted the car and that seemed to solve the problem. After that it was fine."

The reigning World Champion easily made his way into Q3 where he finished second fastest, just 0.055s behind pole sitter Lewis Hamilton.

Using the full wet Pirelli tyres, Vettel posted a 1:59.486 but reckons he could have been faster.

"Q3 was not perfect. I would have loved to have a second go.

"My first attempt, I felt there was time to gain here and there. It was very close, too close."

Now looking ahead to Sunday's Malaysian GP, the Red Bull racer is looking for a good start on his way to his first points of the Championship.

"I should be on the good side for tomorrow but it depends on how good the start is."

He added: "I'm happy with the result."
