Williams do not expect any backlash from the team order controversy that arose in Sepang having spoken to both drivers on Sunday night.

Fighting over seventh place in the final laps of the Malaysian Grand Prix, Williams told Felipe Massa to let Valtteri Bottas through as the Finn had the better pace.

"Valtteri is faster than you do not hold him up", was the first message that came through, followed by "Valtteri has better tyres, we need to let him go. Do not hold him up."

Massa did not move over and later insisted he did "the right thing" as he was out on track to "score as many points for the team and for me as well."

Bottas, although unhappy with the situation, refused to share his thoughts in public, saying he would speak with the team.

And that's exactly what happened, according to chief test and support engineer Rod Nelson.

"We have sat down with both drivers to talk through what happened this evening here in Malaysia," Nelson revealed to Autosport.

"They understand the team's position and why they were asked to do what we asked them to do, which was strategically what we felt was best for the team, allowing each driver to attack button individually to try and get ahead.

"It's now been addressed and we have moved on as a team.

"Our focus is now on Bahrain next weekend."
