Bell quits as Merc tech director

On a day of far-reaching consequences for several F1 teams, Mercedes have announced that Bob Bell is to leave his position as technical director.

Bell took the position of technical director at Mercedes in April 2011 and played a key role in the team's rise to the front of the grid.

However, Bell's part in that - which includes beginning this season with three wins in three races - will end later this year as he has resigned his position.

Mercedes' statement read: "Bob resigned his position in December 2013 and will leave the team at the end of November 2014, with the intention of pursuing new challenges outside the company."

The team added that Bell would not be replaced as "moving forward, the team will streamline its technical organisation and Executive Director (Technical) Paddy Lower will assume the responsibilities previously held by Bob."
