'Monaco could negate Merc advantage'

Sebastian Vettel is hoping that the characteristics of the Monaco circuit will allow Red Bull Racing to challenge Mercedes.

Last time out in Spain, Red Bull were thumbed by Mercedes with Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg finishing almost 50 seconds ahead of third-placed Daniel Ricciardo. Vettel was fourth having recovered from a a grid penalty.

The victory marked Hamilton's fourth of this season and Mercedes' fifth of the campaign giving them a complete clean sweep at the top.

However, next weekend's Monaco Grand Prix could yield a different story.

The tight twisty nature of the street circuit means raw power is not everything and Vettel is hoping that will allow Red Bull to take the fight to the Championship leaders.

"I think yes," he said when asked by ESPN if Red Bull could compete against Mercedes in Monaco.

"It is difficult to predict but maybe at Monaco you need a little bit less power. You still need power but probably a little bit less than other places.

"Maybe there will be some rain - that could help us as well - so there is always the chance to beat everybody."

The reigning World Champion also weighed in on rumours that the chassis that he started the season with was crocked.

Vettel denied that but did confirm that there was "another issue" which was why he swapped chassis ahead of the Spanish GP.

"It was not twisted, it was another issue," he said. "But I think Sunday was already a step in the right direction.

"Last weekend was a very short weekend on my side with few laps, but it was definitely a much better feeling in the car than previous races."
