Lowdon pleased with Marussia progress

Marussia Sporting Director Graeme Lowdon believes last week's historic result in Monaco is just the start of a strong run for the Banbury team.

Jules Bianchi finished in ninth place in the Principality last week to earn Marussia its first points since entering Formula One in 2010 under the Virgin Racing banner.

While Bianchi's result was assisted by the number of front runners that retired during the race on the streets of Monte Carlo, Marussia has made significant progress with the car in recent weeks and is confident that more points can be scored this year.

Speaking to Autosport in an exclusive interview, Lowdon noted that the progress they made so far this season called for a major celebration.

"I think that progress is probably why we are really pleased," Lowdon told Autosport.

"We did a load of really good work in Spain and we learned a lot about the car. I think we have made this car quicker and that is a great feeling really.

"Whether we can have another shot in Canada is another question, because Montreal is quite unique and we don't have the resources for a Canada only car, but I am confident that we are moving forward.

"We know from Brazil 2012 that everything can change in the last lap.

"We take nothing for granted from that point of view - but it certainly helps. We are just very happy because it is progress. That is the key thing."

Bianchi agreed with his boss and added that they are looking forward to a battle with Sauber in the Constructors' Championship.

"I don't want to say that we are able to score points every race because it's not real," the Frenchman said.

"I would say that now we are able to fight with Sauber.

"I think we are really close to them. We have to keep working and improving and see if we can beat them."
