McLaren dismiss Honda speculation

McLaren have dismissed rumours that Japanese engine supplier Honda is considering purchasing a stake in the Formula One team.

Honda is already confirmed as the supplier of power units for McLaren from next year, but rumours have surfaced that that the manufacturer is interested in purchasing the McLaren shares currently held by the Mumtalakat Holding Company in Bahrain.

On Friday, though, McLaren have dismissed those suggestions.

"Contrary to recent media reports, Honda has informed us that it has no intention to buy into McLaren," a spokesperson for McLaren said.

"All of Honda's focus is on the development of its new F1 power unit."
