Mattiacci denies Newey approach

Marco Mattiacci has reiterated that at no time this season did Ferrari try to persuade Adrian Newey to head over to Maranello.

Earlier this year reports surfaced claiming that Ferrari were chasing Red Bull's technical guru Adrian Newey.

At the time new team boss Mattiacci denied this.

However, any chance Ferrari had of making a move in the future ended in Canada when Newey, who is largely credited with Red Bull's rise to the top and their four Championship doubles, re-signed with the reigning Champs.

The 55-year-old agreed a new multi-year contract but won't actually be spending much time with F1, opting instead to focus on outside projects.

Asked whether he was disappointed about losing Newey, Mattiacci reiterated that he never tried to sign the Brit anyway.

"Why disappointing?" the Italian asked Autosport.

"As I said in Monte Carlo we never contacted Adrian. It's good that he continues to work with Red Bull."
