FIA to review Perez penalty

FIA to review Perez penalty

The FIA said Friday they will re-examine the crash between Sergio Perez and Felipe Massa from the Canadian GP.

The officials decided to re-open the investigation after an appeal by the Force India team against the penalty for their driver, Perez.

The talks with both drivers and both teams were scheduled to take place later Friday in Spielberg - the site of the Austrian GP.

At the Canadian Grand Prix on June 8, Perez and Williams driver Massa collided just before the end of the race in Montreal.

Both drivers were uninjured, and Perez was given the blame by officials. The penalty handed down was for Perez to start Sunday's Austrian GP five places behind his spot in qualifying.

Force India appealed against the decision because the drivers were not present at the hearing in Montreal because they were in hospital being examined for injuries.

Telemetry data was also not checked, which gave the commissioners reason enough to re-open the investigation.
