'Drivers against new re-start rule'

Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo says most Formula One drivers are opposed to the new re-start rule.

Under new regulations approved by the World Motor Sport Council, standing re-starts following the deployment of a Safety Car will be implemented from the 2015 season.

However, Australian Ricciardo says the drivers are not in favour of the change.

"We all pretty much disagreed as far as I'm aware," he said. "I don't think it's the best thing, but we'll see what others say."

Much of the unhappiness from drivers is down to the fact that the leading car is likely to be punished under the new rule.

"You can be leading the race by 20 seconds, the Safety Car comes out and you lose the advantage," he said.

"What was looking like a comfortable victory is questionable. So that's a big disadvantage for the leader, who has worked very hard to build up that gap.

"Now to put them in a standing restart... anything can happen at the starts, not only an accident but if you get a poor start you can go from first to fourth before Turn 1 just like that. I just think it's harsh on the leader."
