Button brushes aside criticism

Jenson Button is adamant he's not only person at McLaren who needs to try harder, saying "as a team" they need to push.

The 34-year-old recently came in for a bit of criticism from CEO Ron Dennis who stated that Button needs to "try harder."

He added to Sky Sports News: "He is a highly paid grand prix driver, and yes we are not giving him the best car, yes it would be challenging for him to win in this car to say the least, but he could do his bit, and Kevin's got to make it as difficult for him as possible."

Button, though, has downplayed the criticism, stating that everyone at McLaren needs to try harder.

"I think Ron's practising to be a motivational speaker," he said during Thursday's press conference for the British GP.

"You know, when we are in the position that we have been in for 18 months, it's not easy. For any of us in the team it's very difficult.

"So I think we all need to work harder. As a team. I don't think we should be pointing a finger at any individual in the team. We've got ourselves into this situation and we've got to fight our way out."

Pressed as to whether he was not pulling his weight within the team, the 2009 World Champion added: "I don't do things in half measures. I have the experience in Formula One to know that you need to give 100 percent. In the paddock, at the factory...everything's 100 percent."
