Mattiacci downplays talk of Kimi retiring

Mattiacci downplays talk of Kimi retiring

Ferrari boss Marco Mattiacci insists Kimi Raikkonen's retirement plans are not cast in stone nor has the Finn informed the team that he plans to quit.

In the build-up to the British Grand Prix, the 2007 World Champion was asked about his future and how long he intends staying with Ferrari.

He responded: "Until my contract is finished, and then I will probably stop. That is what I think is going to happen."

The 34-year-old, though, has yet to firm up his plans with Mattiacci revealing he has not spoken with him about retiring.

And until he does, Ferrari will press ahead with Raikkonen as part of their plans.

"Kimi did not inform us that he is going to retire from F1," the Ferrari team boss said.

"He answered a question and said he doesn't know what he is going to do, he did not say he was going to retire.

"My point is that I need to work with Kimi at his best, I'm not thinking about what is happening in 2016.

"We don't have to make any announcements. The best announcements are results, they are the best announcements a team can make.

"From here we need to prepare a different team for 2015, do we need to do announcements? No. Do we need to continue improvements? Yes."

He added: "That is our position so far."
