Nico Rosberg admits it's important that he and Lewis Hamilton find the right balance in the title fight so that they don't damage the Mercedes brand.
The two team-mates are involved in an intense battle for the 2014 Drivers' Championship with the German leading Hamilton by only 14 points with nine races still to go.
However, there has been a lot of tension between the two throughout the campaign, but Rosberg knows they need to think about the bigger picture as well.
"Internally... we need to find the balance also because in the first instance we're racing for Mercedes, representing Mercedes and want to do a good job for them," he said.
"We're also representing the thousand plus people - my colleagues - at the factory who have families who depend on us. So we need to work as a team but there comes a point where you want to beat the other guy. It's a fine line..."
Mercedes' powers that be Niki Lauda, Toto Wolff and Paddy Lowe have at times had their hands full with putting out the flames started by Rosberg and Hamilton, and the German feels the trio have done a brilliant job so far.
"It's a very, very difficult job," Rosberg said.
"There are more difficult periods to manage the whole situation and really we're very fortunate because we're set up really well from that point of view.
"The three of them - Niki, Toto and Paddy - of course more Toto and Paddy who are the more day-to-day running people, I'm grateful to the way that they have managed the team and the situations. They've done a good job and it will remain a challenge."
