Horner not ruling out title tilt

Horner not ruling out title tilt

Red Bull boss Christian Horner has refused to rule out a challenge for the Drivers' Championship title after Daniel Ricciardo won the previous two races.

After victories at back-to-back victories in Hungary and Belgium, the Australian has closed the gap to Lewis Hamilton to 35 points and is another 29 points behind Nico Rosberg with seven races left in the season, including the double points finale in Abu Dhabi.

Horner was particularly impressed with Ricciardo's victory at Spa last week - at a track where the Milton Keynes team was expected to struggle - and believes that Red Bull's best chance of winning the Drivers' Championship this season is to take it one race at a time, rather than focus on the title.

"It's good to be keeping them honest," Horner told crash.net of his team's chances against the Mercedes cars.

"[Spa] was a track that we didn't expect to be competitive at yet we managed to win here. It's our third grand prix victory of the year, we've won at Montreal and Spa which are the two most unlikely tracks that we would have picked pre-season. All we can do is focus on ourselves and go race-by-race. It's remarkable that Daniel has won only one less race than Nico [Rosberg] so far this season...

"We just take things one race at a time. We've had a good couple of grands prix - to win at Spa is against all our expectation - but hopefully we have got some tracks that should be quite good for us coming up."

Following Ricciardo's impressive result at Spa, Horner is hopeful of achieving something similar at Monza next month.

"We're going to take the rear wing off because I don't think we can actually run much less downforce! So yeah, if you're competitive [in Spa] then hopefully we can be at least half competitive in Monza. But again it really lends itself to a Mercedes type of circuit."
